Our approach to privacy
Maplog helps you keep a personal record of the places you have travelled. We design the app so your travel data remains yours: we do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising.
Information we process
Travel data. The places, visit states, notes, and preferences you add to Maplog are used to show your map, passport, and travel statistics. When you use Maplog without an account, this data is stored on your device.
Account data. If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the information needed to create and secure your Maplog account, such as your name (when provided), email address, and a provider-specific account identifier. We use this information only for authentication, account recovery, and syncing your Maplog data across your devices.
Photo and location permissions. Maplog only accesses photos or location information after you grant permission. Where photo-import features are available, Maplog is designed to use photo metadata such as location and capture date to suggest places for your review; your photos are not used for advertising.
Google Maps Timeline export. Maplog cannot download Timeline from Google. If you import Timeline, you export a file from the Google Maps app and choose it in Maplog. That file is read on your device to suggest places; it is not uploaded to Maplog, and we do not use it for advertising.
Technical information. We may process limited technical information needed to operate, secure, and improve the service, such as app version, device type, operating system, and error diagnostics.
How we use information
- Provide Maplog's maps, travel statistics, and account features.
- Authenticate you and maintain sync or backup features that you choose to use.
- Protect the security, reliability, and integrity of Maplog.
- Respond to support requests and meet legal obligations.
Google Sign-In
Google Sign-In is optional. We use the identity information Google provides only to authenticate you with Maplog and connect your account to your travel data. We do not request access to your Google Maps Timeline, contacts, Gmail, calendar, Drive files, or other Google account content. Signing in with Google cannot import Timeline; that requires a file you export from Google Maps. Your use of Google Sign-In is also subject to Google's privacy policy and terms.
Sharing and service providers
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may use carefully selected service providers to operate Maplog, including identity providers and infrastructure providers that process data on our behalf. They may access information only as necessary to provide their services, protect the service, or comply with applicable law.
Your choices and data retention
You can control Maplog's access to photos and location through your device settings. If you use an account, account and synced travel data are retained while your account is active or as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and comply with legal obligations. We will provide account and cloud-data deletion controls when account syncing is available in the released app.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
Maplog is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Maplog or applicable law changes. We will post the updated policy here and revise the “Last updated” date.
